The Sugarmill presents…

THE SUBWAYS @ KEELE UNIVERSITY
4/10/08 @ 7:30 PM
Plus Guests

The Sugarmill rocked last time they appeared here, and now Keele Uni is set to do the same, after the release of their amazing new record this Welwyn Garden City based trio have further established themselves as one of Britain's most undeniably “Arse kicking – will someone please turn that mutha up” bands. Live they blow your brains clear through the back of your skull and leave your body flopping around like a helpless rag doll being shaken by a very petulant child who’s forgotten to take their Ritalin. You won’t ever want it to end…ever… Since their immaculate conception in a Suburban English town in the hot summer of 2002 they have blazed a trail around, first the British, 80 packed in a room and the sound systems a bit knackered (that means sh*t for you yanks), clubs to the 5000 plus capacity, and the light systems really flashy now, venues of our fair isles. Around this point it seemed sensible to release the bands songs on an easy to store, wipe clean format and 500,000 Cds were hastily produced and sold by the bucket load by the bands fine record company. If you don’t have “Young For Eternity” then quite simply, you’re mad/ wrong and should take immediate steps to improve your life and those of your friends and family. 2 years of craziness followed! On came the U, S and A/ Japan/ Aus/ Germany and the rest of Europe. Festivals/ tours/ TV appearances/ Videos/ Awards/ Autographs/ Interviews/ Photo shoots… the mighty carousel of musical dreams was spinning and we all held on tight. Faster and faster…perhaps too fast we span and all our hearts stopped when Billy’s horse stumbled in April and finally fell in Sept 06. In a January 07 operation Billy had Vocal nodes removed. (google it… it’s not very nice) Now Billy’s voice was stronger than it has ever been. A mere whispered “Good Morning” can blow a passer-by’s eardrums at 100 metres. The band’s rehearsal room is alive with the brilliance of the songs that are soon to make up album 2 and The Subways are climbing the walls and shaking their cage with blistering intensity… “Tour us now!” they scream! “We need to make the kids dance till their legs buckle, scream till their lungs pop and sweat till their skins slid off” Tickets on sale 9am Friday 4th July www.thesubways.net

ENTER SHIKARI @ KEELE UNIVERSITY
5/10/08 @ 7:30 PM
Plus Guests

This is a special band, a band that has achieved all their early popularity (which has included topping Kerrang’s best unsigned band of 2006 poll) without the use of a record label, the main benefits of this route are that Enter Shikari have never had to listen to anyone else’s advice but their own. Edges that were once rough (and would surely have been smoothed over and dulled by advice from those with an interest in shifting ‘product’) have instead been sharpened by the road, turning Enter Shikari into one of the most exciting, brutal and explosive live bands on Britain’s post-hardcore scene. A tent-lifting appearance at 2006’s Download festival saw Enter Shikari step it up a gear, playing to their largest crowd so far in a rammed-to-the-rafters Gibson and MySpace stage. Appearances at Leeds Festival and opening for My Chemical Romance at their ‘Black Parade’ Hammersmith unveiling just spread the love further, and late August to early September 2006 saw the band back out on the road again, with a string of sold out shows and the release of the download only single ‘Mothership’ October of ‘06 brought the release of the debut Enter Shikari single, a double A-side of live & club dance floor favourites “Sorry, You’re Not A Winner” and “OK, Time For Plan B”. It also brought more shows. In March of last year we saw the release of the debut Enter Shikari album, ‘Take To The skies’ which went straight into the UK album chart at number 4 and their single ‘Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour’ jumped in at number 27 in the official UK singles chart. They have appeared at the Download festival(Donington, England), Oxegen festival (Naas, Ireland), Carling festivals (Leeds and Reading, England)and also played on the main stage at the Rock Werchter (Belgium) festival in June. Enter Shikari also played at the Pukkelpop-festival in Belgium. They performed twice on the same day. They replaced Lacuna Coil on the mainstage and played their own gig some hours later on the skatestage. Their performance at Lowlands in Holland in August of 2007 was excellent. So much so that the audienced obeyed their every command. Whether it was the making of a human pyramid or an ultra-energetic mosh-pit, complete with a few injuries and crowd-surfs. 2007 also brought them the best live act nomination in which they won against bands like Muse to be crowned best live act of 2007 at the Kerrang awards. 2008 is now the time for them to take over the world, this is band is truly unmissable live, so don’t miss out, get your tickets asap Tickets on sale from Wednesday 14th May!

The Sugarmill proudly presents the return of Dirty Pretty Things, this time appearing at Keele University. Their new album ‘Romance At Short Notice’ is the buzz record of the moment, and it’s a cracker! Led by the single ‘Tired Of England’ its further evidence that Carl and the lads are as focused, as lively and brilliant as they ever have been. Since their debut album ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ which was a huge success, they’ve been here, there and everywhere doing bits and bobs, they supported Muse at their legendary Wembley Stadium show and supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers last summer, at Goffertpark Nijmegen in The Netherlands. They were also a highlight of last years Glastonbury,, where they showcased a few of their new tunes. performed several new songs, following this they went and supported The Pet Shop Boys, as unlikely a combination of acts as that sounds. ‘Radio Song’ was released as part of the OST for Run, Fat Boy, Run in September of last year on, the next month they appeared on the Love Music Hate Racism CD, which was released on the cover of NME. ‘9 Lives’ was Dirty Pretty Things' contribution to the free album. ONE NIGHT ONLY @ KEELE UNIVERSITY
12/10/08 @ 7:30 PM
Plus Guests

North Yorkshire indie pop rock upstarts One Night Only will be headlining Keele University on Sunday 12th October, with their last two singles 'Just For Tonight' and 'It's About Time' being instant mainstream pop rock hits, these fellas are sure to get bigger and bigger and better and better, so get your tickets as soon as they go on sale to avoid missing out on one of the hottest young talented acts out there! Formed in 2003 (which seems an awfully long time ago when you consider that singer George has only just turned 17), One Night Only started out as a bunch of school friends ‘just making noise’ in their rural hometown of Helmsley, North Yorkshire. They went on to spend the following two years tearing the vaulted roof off the local scene with unrefined gigs showcasing punk bastard pop way beyond their tender years. It was only a matter of time before One Night Only broke out of Helmsley. They knuckled down, wrote some songs and last October Steve Lamacq began spinning the demo of ‘You And Me’, prompting the band to really take themselves seriously. One Night Only signed to Vertigo, home of Razorlight and The Killers and then hit the road for months, supporting The Enemy, Milburn and The Coral and embarked on a jaunt around the nation’s Club NMEs before breaking it with a headline tour and those aformentioned singles Their debut album 'Started A Fire' is out now, go get a copy!

FEEDER @ VICTORIA HALL OCTOBER 20th
20/10/08 @ 7:30 PM
Plus Guests

The Sugarmill proudly presents legendary brit rockers Feeder at The Viccy Hall in October! Following their hugely successful singles collection of 2006, their new album, ‘Silent Cry’, is perhaps Feeder’s most daring and complete album yet. Startlingly intimate yet musically heavier than their more recent records, it reflects how far the band has come without compromising their roots, and works as a cohesive whole to convey exactly who the band are today. “This is a really important album for us,” Grant says. “Any album now is important because it could be your last one, you just don’t know. I thought after ‘The Singles’, people would think we were calling it a day and I wasn’t sure about putting it out because of that, but I think what it did was make me realise what we’d done. It was always a dream to me to be in a band who made lots of albums, and it made me realise we were actually starting to achieve that and we can still make better music. I think that made us feel stronger as a band. We may not be the big new thing now, but I didn’t want to compromise or come back with a stale record and it doesn’t feel that way to me.” All told, it’s undoubtedly an album that should make even more people sit up and take notice of a band who believe the best is yet to come for them. A brave step forward - yet still retaining the independent spirit and heavy guitars of their early days – ‘Silent Cry’ is the sound of a band who are constantly evolving and reflecting passing time while never forgetting exactly what first inspired them to come together all those years ago. “We’ve always felt that we had more to achieve and, though I feel like every album is a new chapter in some way, I’m hoping this one can push us even further. I feel this album is a step towards that, and yet a step towards our roots in some ways too,” Grant says. “I definitely believe we can achieve more and we really do believe in this record. You can never guess how it will be received when other people hear it, but all I know is that we’ve made a record we’re very proud of.” www.feederweb.com www.myspace.com/feederweb

THE RIFLES @ KEELE UNIVERSITY
28/10/08 @ 7:30 PM
Plus Guests

We’re absolutely delighted to present a second outing at Keele University for Walthamstow based Mods THE RIFLES! After a few storming performances here at The Sugarmill, the lads moved on to the bigger stage at Keele with consummate ease and played to a packed house who danced and sung along to their Clash/Jam fuelled punk flavoured melodic tuneage. Their debut album "No Love Lost" was released on 17 July 2006 and was produced by the legendary Ian Broudie. The band first received acclaim on the Saturday morning show Soccer am through the song Local Boy, and their music is regularly played on the show. The Rifles undertook a full European tour to promote their album, including a gig at the Forum, London in which Paul Weller (The Jam) appeared on stage to play the song "She's The Only One" with the band and The Jam's famous single "The Eton Rifles". The Rifles have finished recording their second album and it will be released “some time” in 2008. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 14th May, so get yours as soon as possible! www.myspace.com/therifles

AIRBOURNE @ VICTORIA HALL
19/11/08 @ 7:30 PM

A great Rock & Roll band leaves you feeling like youve just been hit over the head with a big hard dose of rock, they give you such a good time that you just cant help but grin from ear to ear, and like nothing you ever experience again will feel the same. That is Airbourne. Hailing from a tough Australian country town, these four boys have grown up with a healthy respect for the fine art that is Foot to the floor rock n roll. Aged between 19-23 one would think that Joel & Ryan (brothers), Roadsy & Streety just havent had the years to have the kind of rock sixth sense that they have, but with hair flying and guitars blazing Airbourne know how to tear up a stage as well as any of the rock greats. Already having slayed audiences on the main stage at the 2006 Big Day Out and at such legendary venues as The Tote, The Espy, The duke of Windsor, The Gaelic Club, Spectrum and The Metro, Airbourne have also shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, You Am I, The Living End, Motley Crue, Magic Dirt & The Detroit Cobras to name drop a few. If you havent seen this band live yet, dust off your air guitar and bring your mates along to witness what is quite possibly the best rock n' roll band in the world right now!
