Our very own DYLAN CARTLIDGE returns to The Sugarmill on 4th November as part of his tour supporting his debut album ‘Hope Above Adversity’.

“This album, Hope Above Adversity, is my voice. It is an artistic statement of post traumatic growth and overcoming adversity through holding on to hope. It is a message to remind others that our lives do not necessarily have to be predetermined by the circumstances we are given. It is a reminder of the choice and control we have, not over what has happened to us, but what we do with that.

I finished most of the album during lockdown after hitting a brick wall creatively with demos and songs already released. I started to work with legendary songwriter, Eg White and reinvigorated some older demos that I had and brought a whole new sound based on Sly and The Family Stone and a lot of 70s influences mixed with my usual left field hip hop sound. This, combined with world class production & engineering from the likes of James Dring, Dan Parry and Ed from the Glass Animals has led to the creation of this album.

I truly hope that my first body of work can act as a beacon of hope for others who may also be struggling to find their voices or overcoming their own difficulties. I want that Hope Above Adversity can be a reminder for those who feel outcast from society and its expectations that they matter and with a bit of hope, they can achieve anything.”
